Attentional Blink: An Internal Traffic Jam?
نویسنده
چکیده
In cognitive models, cognitive control can be measured in terms of the number of control states that are used to do the task. In most cases more control leads to better performance. Attentional Blink is an example in which the opposite is true: more control leads to poorer performance. A hybrid ACTR/Leabra model is used to model both highand low-control participants using two and one control states, respectively.

Reduced attentional blink for alcohol-related stimuli in heavy social drinkers.
Researchers have used various paradigms to show that attentional biases for substance-related stimuli are an important feature of addictive behaviours. However, it is not clear whether these attentional biases occur at the level of encoding or at later post-attentive processing stages. We examined attentional bias at the level of encoding with the attentional blink paradigm in a sample of non-c...

The attentional blink refers to the transient impairment in perceiving the 2nd of two targets presented in close temporal proximity in a rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) stream. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect on human attentional-blink performance of disrupting the function of the magnocellular pathway--a major visual-processing pathway specialized in temporal segreg...

Humans spontaneously generate eyeblinks every few seconds. However, because this blink rate is several times more common than is required for ocular lubrication, the function of most spontaneous eyeblinks remains unknown. Because spontaneous eyeblinks tend to occur at implicit breakpoints in video stories, I hypothesized that spontaneous eyeblinks play an active role in attentional disengagemen...
متن کاملThe sparing is far from spurious: reevaluating within-trial contingency effects in the attentional blink.
The attentional blink is the marked deficit in awareness of a 2nd target (T2) when it is presented shortly after the 1st target (T1) in a stream of distractors. When the distractors between T1 and T2 are replaced by even more targets, the attentional blink is reduced or absent, indicating that the attentional blink results from online selection mechanisms that act in response to distracting inp...
متن کاملPrevious attentional set can induce an attentional blink with task-irrelevant initial targets.
Identification of a second target is often impaired by the requirement to process a prior target in a rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP). This is termed the attentional blink. Even when the first target is task irrelevant an attentional blink may occur providing this first target shares similar features with the second target (contingent capture). An RSVP experiment was undertaken to asses...
